Backup and Recovery
To support our global 24-7 business environment, companies have responded with higher availability applications and infrastructure. At the same time, the amount of data that must be backed up has grown exponentially. Typically, backup operations have occurred overnight or during weekend hours when a "backup window" was available. With today's always-on demands, this window has shrunk to the point where companies require near-instantaneous backup. While operations must be able to complete backups within an available window, it's also critical that the data being backed up can be recovered with minimum disruption to a mission-critical application.
Business problems associated with today's backup and recovery operations include:
- Application performance: Productivity and customer satisfaction are affected by need for lengthy backup windows.
- Application availability: Lengthy recovery times can cause business operations to be unavailable resulting in lost revenue especially for mission-critical applications.
- Unknown recovery reliability: There is little assurance that tape backups are complete and can be used for recovery.
- Management complexity: Using tape as the primary backup target can require significant manual intervention and increase costs.
- Tremendous growth of data: The transition to a digital world, records, photography, video, etc., has exacerbated the challenges of backup and recovery.
The LSI backup and recovery portfolio of solutions solves these problems by offering the replication and nondisruptive backup and recovery products and services.
